A thoughtful start to learning to drive.
Compare instructors, research learner experiences on social media and explore illustrated pedals, cabin controls and training-car dimensions before your first lesson.
01 · Choose your vehicle and lesson format
The directory covers private cars, light goods vehicles, light buses, buses, medium and heavy goods vehicles, and articulated vehicles. Transmission is not specified in the source. Ask about manual or automatic vehicles, beginner or refresher lessons, and the training vehicle.
02 · Verify the instructor and contact details
The list is voluntary and does not include every licensed instructor. Ask to see the private driving instructor’s licence or identity plate and confirm the permitted vehicle types. Source documents and update notes are collected on the About page.
03 · Understand the full lesson cost
Ask for written confirmation of lesson duration, price, minimum booking, tunnel tolls and other charges, plus test-day vehicle hire and arrangements. Understand cancellation, rescheduling and refund terms before prepaying for multiple lessons. This platform charges no intermediary fee and does not collect lesson payments.
04 · Confirm meeting points and language
The official source distinguishes only Hong Kong Island from Kowloon / New Territories. It does not specify individual neighbourhoods. Confirm meeting points, practice routes, available times and teaching language, and discuss your learning pace and communication needs.
05 · Reflect after the first lesson
Consider whether the instructor explains clearly, gives actionable feedback and responds respectfully to questions. Keep records of lesson dates, duration, payments and learning goals. When writing a review, focus on first-hand experience and concrete details without exposing private information.
07 · Get to know the training car
A Hong Kong instructor may call the clutch ‘極力子’. Explore illustrated pedals, cabin functions and reference dimensions for the Toyota Hiace and Prius c.

06 · Read a range of learner experiences
Before booking, look for learner experiences on YouTube, Facebook groups, Threads, LIHKG or RED. Combine an instructor’s name or business phone with the vehicle, transmission, area and lesson year. Compare several accounts rather than relying on one positive or negative post.
YouTube opens video search. Other links use Google to find public content on the named platform. Private groups and unindexed posts require a separate search within the platform; some content requires sign-in.
What to check in a learner’s account
Online experiences do not guarantee a test result. Check the Transport Department’s current requirements and discuss unfamiliar techniques with your instructor.
